Whilst the main attraction is the two miles of family friendly beach, ideal for swimming, sandcastles or exploring the rock pools.
And of course Exmouth is the home of water sports with the town boasting great conditions for sailing, kite surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, jet skiing, rowing, yachting, swimming, snorkelling and much more.
Gateway to the UNESCO Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, with 250 million year old cliffs, exposing a wealth of geological wonder that can be viewed either by walking along the breath-taking coastal path or by a pleasant boat trip along the shoreline.
For cyclists and walkers Exmouth has lots to offer, follow the cycle path that takes you all the way along the seafront, and up the beautiful Exe Estuary Trail to the picture-postcard village of Lympstone and beyond to Topsham and into Exeter. Hire a bike in the town, there’s plenty of choice. We are also part of the fabulous South West Coast Path, 630 miles of coastline from North Somerset to mid Dorset.
There is the amazing Exe Estuary, home to numerous amounts of wildlife and a real favourite for birdwatchers, as featured on the BBC Autumn Watch. Or take a short trip out of town and explore the fantastic Devon countryside of Woodbury Common, with views across to Sidmouth then across the Exe and even to the far distant Somerset levels. The iron-age fort is a magical location, steeped in ancient history.
History comes to life in Exmouth, the town being the first coastal resort in Devon, Lady Nelson, Shelly and Byron are just some of the famous names that are connected to Exmouth. Not to mention the infamous Duchess of York, wife of the Grand Old Duke of York!
Keep an eye out for the great events that regularly happen in Exmouth. The annual arts and music Exmouth Festival is a major attraction, the autumn illuminated carnival, the kite festival, the Christmas Cracker and the Christmas Day swim (yes really, it’s a huge event with hundreds of bathers) are all experiences that will stay in the memory forever.
New Year’s Eve in Exmouth is a night not to be missed. The whole town turns out in fancy dress and you will stick out like a sore thumb in ‘normal clothes’. Indeed Exmouth is regularly voted in the top five places in the UK to spend New Year, with fireworks in the Strand marking the New Year.
Then of course there are several great golf courses, boat trips, the marina, fishing, cinema, boating lake, tennis, bowls, cricket, crazy golf and donkey rides.
But don’t forget to leave time to just sit, relax and watch the world go by and the sunset across distant Haldon Hills. Possibly whilst sampling one of the local ales or wines in the variety of bars, prior to making the most of Exmouth’s vibrant nightlife.
