Getting to exmouth

Based on the South coast of Devon, there are a number of easy-to-use travel services to the area. No matter how you travel, Exmouth is a destination well worth the journey.

Travelling by road

Exmouth is only 8 miles from the M5, making access from London and the Midlands simple. From the M5 at junction 30 (near Exeter), turn south onto the A376. Take the Exmouth Road at the 1st roundabout on the A376 by Clyst St Mary. Go straight over the next roundabout after the duel carriageway and then fork left to Exmouth at the third roundabout at Clyst St. George.

Travelling by bus

Stagecoach’s Gold 57 service runs between Exeter and Exmouth from early until late. There’s a bus up to every 20 minutes, 7 days a week and the journey takes approximately 30 minutes. For more information visit Stagecoach’s website. Alternatively, download their free app – you can even use it to buy mobile day tickets. NB: Don’t be surprised if you end up deep in conversation with another bus passenger as you travel. That’s perfectly normal: Devon is that type of place. You can also take advantage of the free WiFi on board to plan your day out when you arrive.

Travelling by train

Arriving by train really couldn’t be easier. Frequent services from Exeter’s St David’s and Central stations, terminate in Exmouth – a journey taking around 25 minutes. Known as the ‘Avocet Line’, named after the rare local bird, this must be one of the most beautiful train journeys in the land, with stunning views of the famous Exe Estuary. Trains to Exeter from London Paddington are frequent and speedy – whereas a longer (more scenic) route is available from London’s Victoria station.

Travelling by coach

The National Express coach system has a main interchange coach station at Exeter, from which it’s an easy journey to Exmouth. In addition, several holiday companies provide coaches direct to Exmouth’s large range of hotels.

Travelling by Ferry

Take the scenic foot-ferry from Starcross Pier to Exmouth Marina – only short stroll from Exmouth’s main attractions. The ferry operates April – October (weather depending).

Travelling by plane

Exmouth is a short drive from Exeter airport, where Loganair services operate to a wide range of destinations.

Travelling by helicopter

Ask your pilot for directions. NB: Helicopter parking at some Exmouth attractions is limited.
