On yer bike!

Boasting stunning views of the estuary, the Exe cycle path is hugely popular with locals and tourists alike.

From Exmouth you can cycle all the way to the Exeter Quay and city centre, stopping off in the quaint villages (with their pubs and tea shops) that lie along the way.

If you’re feeling energetic you can even cycle up one side of the River Exe and down the other ending in Dawlish Warren or Starcross. From there, why not catch the water taxi back home to where you started? The only limit to your enjoyment is the energy you have in your legs!

Our tips:

  • Lympstone is a great place to stop for a break, it has excellent pubs and charming architecture.
  • If you’re lucky, you might see recruits training as you pass The Commando Training Centre at Lympstone. Their famous assault course is breath-takingly impressive.
  • Topsham is the ideal destination for a lunch break on your trip. There are many pubs and restaurants in this beautiful, historic, riverside town.
  • If you’re worried about becoming tired, why not cycle to Topsham and take the train back to Exmouth?
  • Take your time. There are plenty of places along the way to get off your bike and enjoy the amazing views.
  • Taking the cycle path in the other direction to Budleigh Salterton is another great ride.

What the locals say…

“I regularly use the Exe Estuary Trail between Exmouth and Topsham. It has to be one of the most beautiful rides in Devon.”
